Did you know this Columbia Christmas connection?
"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus," is a beloved line from the most reprinted newspaper column of all time. As it turns out, the author was Columbia alumnus Francis Church 1859CC addressing a future Columbia master’s student, Virginia O'Hanlon 1911GSAS! Speaking of Christmas, another alum has an interesting role in a holiday tradition.
Scholar and poet, Clement Clarke Moore 1798CC, the valedictorian of his class at Columbia College, wrote the poem, "A Visit from St. Nicholas" which is now more popularly known as the classic "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."
