Academy Award-nominated writer-director Greta Gerwig ‘06BC takes on the eighth feature film adaptation of Little Women, based on Louisa May Alcott's 1868 novel of the same name. The iconic coming-of-age story stars Saoirse Ronan as Jo, Emma Watson as Meg, Florence Pugh as Amy, Eliza Scanlen as Beth, Timothée Chalamet as Laurie, Laura Dern as the matriarch of the March family, Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

The story centers around the March sisters’ coming-of-age experiences in 1860s Massachusetts during and after the American Civil War. Gerwig’s adaptation will change the narrative structure of Alcott’s novel to tell the events in non-chronological order and giving the story a modern adaptation.

Little Women is another chance for Gerwig to reunite with Lady Bird co-stars Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet. Lady Bird is a 2017 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Gerwig in her directorial debut. Notably, Gerwig was nominated for Best Director at the 90th Academy Awards in 2018 for Lady Bird, which made her the first woman in eight years and one of only five women in Oscar history to have been nominated in that category.

Little Women is scheduled to be released at theaters nationwide on December 25, 2019 by Sony Pictures. Get your first look at the trailer here. For more information about the film and schedule, visit the official film site here.
