Columbia Engineering researchers and alumni are leading the way through the fintech revolution. Join Dean Mary C. Boyce, Professor Xunyu Zhou, and Addepar CEO, Eric Poirier (SEAS '04) as they discuss how new advances in technology are transforming traditional investing practices.
Is Artificial Intelligence or Intelligence Augmentation the answer to making better financial decisions? Zhou and Poirier are two experts offering insight on the breakthroughs taking place and shaping the future of the finance industry and beyond.
Xunyu Zhou is the Liu Family Professor of Financial Engineering and Director of the FDT Center for Intelligent Asset Management at Columbia University. He is an IEEE fellow and a SIAM fellow, and recipient of many awards and honors, including the Wolfson Research Award from The Royal Society, the Outstanding Paper Prize from SIAM, the Humboldt Distinguished Lecturer and the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship. He was an invited speaker at the 2010 International Congress of Mathematicians. Before joining Columbia, he was the Nomura Professor of Mathematical Finance at the University of Oxford, heading the Mathematical and Computational Finance Group and directing the Oxford-Nie Financial Big Data Lab.
Eric Poirier spearheads Addepar’s mission to solve the financial sector’s intractable data and scale challenges. Before joining Addepar, he spent nearly 7 years at Palantir Technologies, creating tools that enable organizations to make sense of large, disparate datasets. One of Palantir’s first 20 employees, he shaped its core technology while building the finance business, which now represents half of the company’s revenue base. Earlier in his career, Eric worked in Lehman Brothers’ Fixed Income Analytics group, modeling, simulating, and visualizing data across a broad range of debt and credit instruments. Eric graduated from Columbia University with a BS in Computer Science.
