Dr. Eric Nestler, MD, PhD, will present research focusing on the molecular basis of drug addiction and depression. His research uses animal models of these disorders to identify the ways in which drugs of abuse or stress change the brain to lead to addiction- or depression-like syndromes and to use this information to develop improved treatments for these disorders. The topic is highly related to CDM's research emphasis on dental-mental health as a part of dental-medical integration. Faculty and students will learn about the molecular basis of depression and drug addiction, which are closely associated with dental problems.
