Big Data ⇒ Big Ideas: Unlocking Autism Trends
What is “Big Data?” How does it affect the research done at Columbia and what is its
impact on society?

Join Columbia Engineering, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the Columbia
Alumni Association
(CAA) for a special presentation on the intersection of big data and
autism research.

Professor Peter Bearman, Jonathan R. Cole Professor of Sociology at Columbia, will present his findings on how big data can help unlock the underlying trends in the occurrence of autism in California. The evening
will also feature an introduction by Columbia Engineering Professor
Kathy McKeown, director of the Institute for Data Sciences & Engineering,
who will speak about the exciting new Center and its impact on Columbia
and society. After the program, enjoy a reception with beer, wine, and
hors d’oeuvres.
