Undergraduate Admissions Welcome Reception

Help us welcome newly admitted Columbia College and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) applicants and their families to the Columbia community and tell of how great the Columbia experience can be! We invite our undergrad alum to share their Columbia experiences, help answer questions about Columbia and its environs and help recruit students to Columbia. Students will receive their decision letters in advance.

Lion Literary Club

Do you miss reading and discussing books like we did in the Core? Join the Lion Literary Society! RSVP by April 30 to join the club and we will follow up with details about when and where the society meets in May. As the Pulitzer Prizes approach, we are reminded of the many innovations that Columbia alumni and professors have brought to literature. To explore these contributions, the Lion Literary Society will choose an acclaimed piece of fiction, poetry, drama, or non-fiction to analyze and discuss. Beginning with novels published within the last ten years, we will move progressively back through Columbia?s literary history.

Seattle is facing a humanitarian crisis; over 2,800 people are living without shelter. In 2016, Mayor Edward Murray declared a state of emergency and hired George Scarola to serve as the City?s director of homelessness to address the tremendous challenges confronting people without permanent homes. The City has implemented initiatives and offered new resources, led by Pathways Home, the plan to create a more integrated homelessness services system based on individualized services and measurable goals. More than $100 million has been budgeted to address homelessness over two years. Learn about the challenges of implementing the City?s plan to transform the service delivery system for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. It?s an opportunity to discuss policies, share your ideas and make connections to achieve permanent housing solutions.

CAA QATAR Event - Film Screen: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari at Qatar Philharmonic

Event screening of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari at the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. For those who don't know it, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a German silent thriller film produced in 1920. It's a classic (8.1 on IMDB) and a point of reference in early cinema. Let's meet for dinner beforehand at Ard Canaan, it's just a few steps away from the opera house. We have a reservation at 6:00. If you'd like to attend, you can buy a ticket online at the Philharmonic's web site. There are a few groups of seats available, in the orchestra (row F) and in the upper orchestra (rows M, N and O). The orchestra is 200 QR per seat, the upper orchestra 150. I say we go for the upper orchestra, but you can sit wherever you like of course. Please feel free to invite friends!
