Atlanta: Civil Rights Panel Discussion

Location:Atlanta, GA
Atlanta has long been central to, and a symbol of, the nation's path toward social justice. From the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, Atlanta has marked the nation's struggles for freedom and equality and often been the setting for crucial turning points in America's history. The influence of Atlanta's citizens during the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement, and in every struggle for justice in between, continues to shape our perceptions - and experience - of race, belonging, and justice. Indeed, what happened in Atlanta provides a lens on American identity and the ways that the "race problem" continues to plague our country. In recognition of the Civil War Sesquicentennial and the fiftieth anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act, we will explore some of the philosophies, historical figures, and critical events that propelled justice activism from the Civil War to Civil Rights.
